Stromata as in the typical variety except for consistently having granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments greenish olivaceous (90).

Perithecia spherical, 0.6-1 mm diam.

Ostioles papillate, encircled with a bovei-type disc 0.3-0.7 mm diam.

Asci 115-175 mm total length x 4.5-6 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 65-90 mm long, the stipes 40-85 mm long, with apical ring bluing or not bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 1-1.5 mm high x 2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 8.5-10.5 x 4-5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
