Stromata discoid to pulvinate, adnate, constricted at base, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 1.5-4 (-8) mm diam x 1.5-2.7 mm thick; surface blackish; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments greenish olivaceous (90), dilute isabelline (65), or without apparent pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer massive, dark brown to blackish.

Perithecia spherical to obovoid, 0.3-0.6 mm diam x 0.4-0.7 mm high.

Ostioles papillate.

Asci 120-160 mm total length x 6-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 77-90 mm long, the stipes 45-72 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5-1 mm high x 2-2.5 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 9-11 (-12) x 4-5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
