Hypoxylon cohaerens (Pers.: Fr.) Fr. var. microsporum J. D. Rogers & Cand.

NOTES

This variety differs from its typical variety in having vinaceous to rusty KOH-extractable pigments, in having smaller ascospores, and in having a less than spore-length germ slit. It also differs in having a much wider geographical and host range. A case could be made for considering it a distinct species. Hypoxylon rutilum var. ericae is an earlier name. However, this fungus is in no way a variety of H. rutilum.
