Hypoxylon leptascum was considered to be a synonym of H. truncatum by Miller (1961). Hypoxylon leptascum and H. truncatum are easily differentiated by ascospore germ slit morphology. Hypoxylon leptascum and H. urceolatum have similar ascospore morphology, mainly differing in KOH-extractable pigments.
