TELEOMORPH

Ascovirgaria occulta J. D. Rogers & Y.-M. Ju, Canad. J. Bot. 80: 478. 2002.

Stroma rudimentary, consisting of an external blackened surface reminiscent of Eutypa and perithecia seated in decayed wood, up to 4 cm long x 1 cm broad x less than 1 mm thick.

Perithecia ca. 0.2 mm diam. Ostioles papillate.

Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, 80-95 mm total length x 4.5 mm broad, the spore-bearing part 50-75 mm long, the stipes 20-30 mm long with ascus ring staining pale blue in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid to somewhat cuneate, 1.5 mm high, 3 mm broad.

Ascospores brown, one-celled, ellipsoid, smooth, (6-)6.5-8 x 3-4 mm, with germ slit less than spore length.

Paraphyses abundant, 2-4 mm broad.
