Stromata effused-pulvinate, plane or with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 0.8-1.5 mm thick; surface rust (39) or sienna (8); orange red granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments orange (7); the tissue below the perithecial layer black, 0.3-0.9 mm thick.

Perithecia tubular, 0.3-0.5 mm diam x 0.5-0.8 mm high.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 100-150 mm total length x 4-6 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 45-55 mm long, the stipes 55-100 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.2-0.5 mm high x 1.2-1.5 mm broad.

Ascospores brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 6.5-8 x 3-4 mm, with slightly sigmoid germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
