Three isolates of Nemania produce their teleomorphs only in pure culture. We have included mention of them under NOTES on the species that they resemble. Petrini & Rogers (1986) designated them as Hypoxylon serpens "Barron isolate", "Carroll isolate", and "Petrini isolate", respectively, after the persons who isolated them. These fungi have an endophytic, or at least cryptic, lifestyle and, unlike the other Nemania taxa described herein, their teleomorphs are not known in nature. Petrini & Rogers (1986) declined to formally name them and we have not done so here. It is probable that a molecular approach would clarify the true affinities of these taxa.
