This fungus is a penzigioid Xylaria. Its stromatal characteristics are similar to those of Xylaria frustulosa (Berk. & M. A. Curtis) Cooke. Ascospores are blackish brown, ellipsoid-inequilateral, narrow-ended, 27-31 x 12-14 mm, and have a hyaline sheath and a straight, spore-length germ slit.
