U.S.A.: West Virginia, 1893, Nuttall, L.W., wood (GAM 12812, TYPE of H. atroviride).

A Camarops P. Karst. Shear (1938) considered it to be a synonym of C. tubulina (Albertini & Schwein.: Fr.) Shear. However, Nannfeldt (1972) believed that it is different from C. tubulina but is conspecific with C. ohiensis (Ellis & Everh.) Nannf.
