Hypoxylon botryosum (Fr.: Fr.) Berk., Grevillea 4: 94. 1876.

º Sphaeria botryosa Fr.: Fr., Syst. Mycol. II, p. 342. 1823.

º Cucurbitaria botryosa (Fr.: Fr.) Ces. & De Not., Comment. Soc. Crittog. Ital. 1: 215. 1863.

Ellis and Everhart (1892) cited Sphaeria botryosa as a synonym of Fracchiaea subcongregata (Berk. & M. A. Curtis) Ellis & Everh. Their description indicates a coronophoralean identity. Fracchiaea subcongregata was in turn synonymized with Nitschkia broomeiana (Berk.) Nannf. by Nannfeldt (1975). Fitzpatrick (1924) did not point out a place for S. botryosa but left it in the "doubtful and excluded forms" section of Fracchiaea Sacc.
