HYPOXYLON CARIONI FLAG.

The status of the name is uncertain.

Hypoxylon carionii Flag., Bull. Soc. Hist. Nat. Autun. 26: 445 (1914).

This is probably a Nemania species. We have not seen this fungus. A description in Trotter (1928) indicates this fungus having small stromata containing 2-9 perithecia and growing on Corticium. The stromata have a sooty brown surface and a white interior. The ascal apical rings blue with iodine. The ascospores were given as oblong-fusoid, deep brown, 13-17 x 8-9 µm.
