Hypoxylon collabens Mont. was synonymized with Xylaria comosa (Mont.) Fr. by Dennis (1956). Laessøe (1994), on the other hand, believed that it could be assigned to X. tuberoides Rehm. According to Laessøe, the type material that he studied is immature.
