Hypoxylon endoxanthum Mont., Ann. Sci. Nat. Bot., sér. IV, 3: 117. 1855.

GUYANA: Leprieur, C. 1171, corticated wood (FH, ISOTYPE of H. endoxanthum).

Probably a penzigioid Xylaria. The stromata of this fungus resemble those of Xylaria schreuderiana Van der Bijl (see Rogers and Samuels, 1986). No ascospores were found in the FH specimen. Miller (1961) examined the material at the Shear herbarium of BPI and considered H. endoxanthum to be a typical Penzigia close to P. eterio (Berk. & Broome) Petch.
