HYPOXYLON KERMESI SPEG.

The status of the name is uncertain.

Hypoxylon kermesi Speg., Anales Mus. Nac. Hist. Nat. Buenos Aires 19: 343. 1909.

ARGENTINA: Formosa, 28.3.1901, Kermes 801, rotten wood (LPS 2015, HOLOTYPE of H. kermesi).

There are no ascospores in the type. We are not certain if it is a Hypoxylon. It has a luteous stromatal surface, luteous interperithecial tissue, and vinaceous KOH-extractable pigments. The stromata are rounded, restricted, 0.5-2 mm diam x 0.5-0.8 mm high, containing up to 20 perithecia.
