No specimen of Fries' Sphaeria lobata but Schweinitz's S. lobata [U.S.A.: North Carolina, Salem, corticated wood (UPS 56400, ISOTYPE)] was located at UPS. Fries (1828), after having examined Schweinitz's specimen, used Sphaeria schweinitzii Fr.: Fr. as the nomenclatural substitute for S. lobata Schwein. Schweinitz's material is a Hypocrea with the correct name Hypocrea schweinitzii (Fr.: Fr.) Sacc.
