LOCALITY UNKNOWN: Rabenhorst, Fung. Europ. 2433, wood, as H. crustaceum (BPI-CLS [2 slides]).
We have not seen type material. It was not found at K and might not be extant. Miller (1961) synonymized these names with H. multiforme (Fr.: Fr.) Fr. The above-cited material, listed under H. multiforme by Miller (1961), has ascospores with a spore-length germ slit; it is H. cohaerens (Pers.: Fr.) Fr. Fries (1823) listed S. crustacea as a synonym of S. serpens Pers.: Fr. [º Nemania serpens (Pers.: Fr.) S. F. Gray]. The identity of this fungus remains doubtful.
