HYPOXYLON TERRICOLA J. H. MILLER
The status of the name is uncertain.Hypoxylon terricola J. H. Miller, Monogr. of the World Species of Hypoxylon: 76 (1961).
USA: Michigan, Whitmore Lake, Mud Lake Bog, on fallen pine needles, 20 May 1932, A.H. Smith, numbered 2337 by J.H. Miller (BPI 593316-holotype of Hypoxylon terricola).
Material of this fungus was not located at GAM. There is an autographed specimen of Miller at BPI with the number 2337 on the original label. It is the number cited for the (holo)type in the protologue. We thus consider the BPI specimen as the holotype. Unlike the Nemania taxa dealt with in this treatment, Hypoxylon terricola has soft stromata and a hyaline sheath enclosing the ascospore. Petrini & Müller (1986) provided descriptions on the teleomorph and anamorph. The anamorph is assignable to Geniculosporium.
