Unlike the other discoid Biscogniauxia species, Biscogniauxia kalchbrenneri does not have prominently raised stromata and raised stromatal margins.

According to Miller (1942) [under Nummularia kalchbrenneri], Nummularia lepida Syd. & P. Syd. is a synonym. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate the type of N. lepida at S. Also see Ju and Rogers (1996) for comments on Hypoxylon placenta Kalchbr.
