Stromata barely raised, orbicular, with indistinctly raised margins, 2.5-5 mm diam x 0.7-1.3 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer not observed; mature surface blackish; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid to tubular, 0.3-0.6 mm diam x 0.8 mm high.

Ostioles lower than stromatal surface, with openings punctate, sometimes overlain with white substance.

Asci fragmentary, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5 mm high x 2.5-3 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, smooth, (9.5-) 10-12 (-13) x 5-6 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length.
