TELEOMORPH

Vivantia guadalupensis J. D. Rogers, Y.-M. Ju, & Cand., Mycol. Res. 100: 672. 1996.

Stromata applano-pulvinate, probably bipartite when immature, widespreading, less than 1 mm thick, externally and internally black, fairly hard.

Perithecia 0.3-0.4 mm diam., immersed in stroma, but with bases seated in bark.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface (umbilicate), inconspicuous.

Asci cylindrical, eight-spored, short-stipitate, ca 75 µm total length x 6 µm broad, the spore-bearing part ca 65 µm long, with apical ring blueing in Melzer's reagent, cuneate, 1.5-2 µm x 1.5-2 µm.

Ascospores hyaline to subhyaline, two-celled with septa median, submedian or eccentric, almost ellipsoid to ellipsoid-inequilateral, 10-13.5 x 3-4µm, with no apparent germination site.

Paraphyses broad, numerous.
