HYPOXYLON CAELATUM (FR.: FR.) CES.

The status of the name is uncertain.

Hypoxylon caelatum (Fr.: Fr.) Ces., Atti Accad. Sci. Fis. 8: 19. 1879.

º Sphaeria caelata Fr., Linnaea 5: 540. 1830; Fr.: Fr., Syst. Mycol. Index, p. 160. 1832.

º Leveillea caelata (Fr.: Fr.) Fr., Summa Veg. Scand. II, p. 409. 1849.

MALAYSIA: Borneo, Sarawak, Beccari, O. 224, wood, as H. caelatum by Cesati, V., as H. sclerophaeum by Miller, J.H. (BPI 11612; K).

The species epithet is often spelled as "coelatum" in the literature. Beccari's collection from Borneo is H. polyporum (Starb.) Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers. Lloyd (1917) considered Sphaeria caelata to be H. turbinatum Berk. [º Phylacia turbinata (Berk.) Dennis]. We were unable to locate the type, as were Dennis (1957, 1963) and Miller (1961).
