Stromata upright, unbranched or branched at various points, the ultimate branches terminating in discoid to subcupulate processes. Texture fleshy to cartilaginous. Stipe definite to obscure, grading into a well-developed rooting portion. Perithecia 0.1-0.3 mm diam, embedded in stipe below expanded apex. Ostioles papillate. Asci eight-spored, stipitate, with ascus apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent. Ascospores brown, ellipsoid inequilateral, with germ slit. Paraphyses broad, sometimes branched. Hypocreodendron state borne on discoid processes. Conidiophores stout, producing conidiogenous cells in digitate configurations or false whorls. Conidia produced holoblastically; conidiogenous cells proliferating percurrently. Conidia slightly clavate, usually with base slightly swollen. |
