Stromata hemispherical, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 0.2-2 cm diam x (1.5-) 2-4.5 mm thick; surface olivaceous brown when young, becoming blackish brown with olivaceous tones; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments greenish olivaceous (90) or dull green (70); the tissue below the perithecial layer massive, woody, dark brown.

Ostioles coarsely conical-papillate, encircled with a convex truncatum-type disc 0.3-0.5 mm diam.

Asci 110-130 mm total length x 4.5-6 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 67-80 mm long, the stipes 35-55 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5 mm high x 1.5-2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 7.5-10.5 (-11) x 3.5-5 (-6) mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
