TELEOMORPH

Hypoxylon archeri Berk. apud J. D. Hook., Bot. Antarc. Voy. II, pt. II, p. 280. 1860.

Stromata effused-pulvinate, with perithecial mounds 1/4-2/3 exposed, 0.5 mm thick; surface dull reddish brown; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments greenish olivaceous (90) or dull green (70); the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.3-0.4 mm diam.

Ostioles coarsely papillate, encircled with a small truncatum-type disc 0.1 mm diam.

Asci not observed.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 9-10.5 x 4-5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
