Hypoxylon atroroseum and H. stygium are similar teleomorphically. However, stromata of H. atroroseum often have rosy surface tones. Their conidiogenous structures likewise differ: that of H. atroroseum is Nodulisporium-like, whereas that of H. stygium is Periconiella-like.
