TELEOMORPH

Hypoxylon microcarpum Penz. & Sacc., Malpighia 11: 492. 1897.

Stromata effused-pulvinate, with perithecial mounds 1/4 exposed, 0.2-0.3 mm thick; surface becoming blackish, with reddish brown tone; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments dull green (70); the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.15-0.2 mm diam.

Ostioles conical-papillate, encircled with a truncatum-type disc 0.1 mm diam.

Asci not observed.

Ascospores brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 7-8 x 3-4 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH; epispore smooth.
