Stromata applanate, 1.2 cm long x 0.5 cm broad x 0.7 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer dark brown, thin; mature surface dark brown; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface; dark brown, woody between perithecia, with carbonaceous tissue encasing each individual ostiole; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid, 0.2-0.3 mm diam x 0.5-0.6 mm high.

Ostioles higher than stromatal surface, with openings papillate.

Asci 65-75 mm total length x 5-5.5 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 55-70 mm long, the stipes 8-15 mm long, with apical ring lightly bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.2 mm high x 1.5 mm broad.

Ascospores light brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with broadly rounded ends, smooth, 7.5-9 x 3-4 mm, lacking germ slit.
