Stromata raised-discoid, slightly concave, 0.4-2.7 cm long x 0.4-0.9 cm broad x 2-3.2 mm thick, with dark brown, distinct raised margins originating from outer dehiscing layer; mature surface blackish; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface; dark brown, woody between perithecia, with carbonaceous stromatal layer discretely enclosing each perithecium; tissue beneath perithecia composed largely of whitened host tissue, 0.5-1.5 mm thick; tissue of margins and bottoms 0.2-0.3 mm thick, dark brown, woody, with embedded carbonaceous fragments.

Perithecia tubular, 0.3-0.5 mm diam x 1-1.8 mm high.

Ostioles higher than stromatal surface, with openings coarsely papillate.

Asci 150-170 mm total length x 12-14 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 125-150 mm long, the stipes 20-30 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 1-2 mm high x 6-7.5 mm broad.

Ascospores dark brown to blackish brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with narrowly to broadly rounded ends, smooth, 15.5-21 x 10.5-13.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length.
