Biscogniauxia mucigera Van der Gucht, Mycol. Res. 100: 702. 1996.

Stromata applanate, fragmentary, up to 2 cm long x 0.3 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer dark brown, thin; mature surface black; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia tubular, 0.05-0.1 mm diam x 0.2 mm high.

Ostioles lower than stromatal surface, with openings punctate, usually with slightly raised rim.

Asci 95-120 mm total length x 5-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 85-110 mm long, the stipes 8-15 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 2 mm high x 3.5 mm broad.

Ascospores brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, slightly inequilateral to equilateral, with broadly to, less frequently, narrowly rounded ends, smooth, 8.5-10.5 x 5-5.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length, with hyaline sheath.
