NOTES

Biscogniauxia nummularia is reported mainly from Europe and, indeed, is to be considered an European fungus. It is highly associated with Fagus. Those varieties of Hypoxylon nummularium in Miller (1961), except for the typical variety and var. exutans, are treated as either varieties of B. capnodes or their synonyms herein. Type material of H. nummularium var. exutans is possibly B. fuscella as discussed in NOTES on B. fuscella. See also NOTES on B. capnodes for comparison of B. nummularia and B. capnodes.
