Stromata raised-discoid, with slightly concave surface, 0.8-1.1 cm long x 0.4-0.7 cm broad x 2.5 mm thick, with dark brown, distinct raised margins originating from outer dehiscing layer; mature surface gray; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath perithecia composed largely of whitened host tissue, ca. 0.5 mm thick; tissue of margins 0.3-0.4 mm thick, dark brown, woody, with embedded black, carbonaceous fragments.
Perithecia tubular, 0.4-0.5 mm diam x 1.5-2 mm high.
Ostioles higher than stromatal surface, with openings coarsely papillate.
Asci 170-210 mm total length x 16-19 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 150-180 mm long, the stipes 10-30 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 2-2.5 mm high x 8-8.5 mm broad.
Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid to subglobose, nearly equilateral, laterally compressed, with broadly rounded ends, smooth, 17-22 x 11-14 x 9-10 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length on both narrow edges.
