Stromata applanate, up to 2.3 cm long x 0.6-1.2 cm broad x 0.6 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer dark brown, thin; mature surface black; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid, 0.3-0.4 mm diam x 0.4-0.5 mm high.

Ostioles at the same level as or lower than stromatal surface, with openings punctate, sometimes overlain with white substance.

Asci fragmentary, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 3.5-4 mm high x 5.5-6 mm broad.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, fusoid, slightly inequilateral, with acute to narrowly rounded ends, ornamented with longitudinal ridges, 26-30 x 7.5-10 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length.
