TELEOMORPH

Biscogniauxia waitpela Van der Gucht, Mycol. Res. 100: 704. 1996.

Stromata applanate, 2.5-8 cm long x 1-3.5 cm broad x 0.3 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer dark brown, thin; mature surface light orange brown; whitish soft immediately beneath surface; tissue between perithecia carbonaceous; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid, 0.1 mm diam x 0.2 mm high.

Ostioles lower than stromatal surface, with openings umbilicate and sometimes overlain with white substance.

Asci 60-75 mm total length x 4-5 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 50-65 mm long, the stipes 7-12 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5 mm high x 2 mm broad.

Ascospores pale brown to light brown, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with one end broadly to, less frequently, narrowly rounded and the other bearing a hyaline cellular appendage ca. 1 mm long x 2-2.5 mm broad, smooth, 6-7.5 (not including appendage) x 3.5-4 mm, lacking germ slit.
