TELEOMORPH

Stromata pulvinate to hemispherical, plane or with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 0.8-3.5 cm diam x 4-8 mm thick; surface brown vinaceous (84); dark reddish brown granules immediately beneath surface and sometimes between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments isabelline (65); the tissue below the perithecial layer blackish brown, woody, 3-7 mm thick, sometimes extending upwards into the space between perithecia.

Perithecia tubular to long tubular, 0.3-0.5 mm diam x 0.7-0.9 mm high.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 495-520 mm total length x 15-17 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 150-170 mm long, the stipes 330-360 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.7 mm high x 4 mm broad.

Ascospores blackish brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with broadly rounded ends, 21-29 x 12-14.5 mm, with straight germ slit less than spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with faint coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
