TELEOMORPH

Hypoxylon carneum Petch, Ann. Roy. Bot. Gard. (Peradeniya) 8: 157. 1924.

Stromata effused-pulvinate, plane, 0.7-5 cm long x 0.3-1.3 cm broad x 0.5-0.7 mm thick; surface chestnut (40); yellowish brown, light brown or light reddish brown granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, without apparent KOH-extractable pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.1-0.3 mm diam.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 90-123 mm total length x 6.5-8 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 67-83 mm long, the stipes 25-57 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.8-1 mm high x 2.2-2.5 mm broad.

Ascospores light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, (7.5-) 8-11.5 x 4.5-5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length, at the center of a dotted band ca. 1 mm broad; perispore dehiscent or indehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
