Stromata pulvinate to hemispherical, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 2-3 mm diam x 0.8-1.5 mm thick; surface dark brick (60); dull reddish brown granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments orange (7) or fulvous (43); the tissue below the perithecial layer up to 1 mm thick, dark brown.

Perithecia spherical, 0.3 mm diam.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci with the spore-bearing parts 60-75 mm long x 6-7 mm broad, the stipes immeasurable, with apical ring highly reduced or lacking, not bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent.

Ascospores dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, usually strongly curved, with narrowly rounded ends, 9-11 x 4.5-5.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth or with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
