Stromata effused-pulvinate, plane or with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 2-40 mm long x 2-15 mm broad x 0.5-2.2 (-3) mm thick; surface cinnamon (62), fulvous (43), apricot (42), sienna (8), rust (39), or bay (6); orange red granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments orange (7); the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous to 1.5 mm thick, black.

Perithecia spherical, obovoid to long tubular, 0.1-0.3 (-0.4) mm diam x 0.2-1.5 mm high.

Ostioles lower than or at the same level as the stromatal surface.

Asci (100-) 120-205 (-217) mm total length x 6-9 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 60-95 mm long, the stipes (32-) 45-135 mm, with apical ring lightly bluing or bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 0.5-1.5 mm high x 2-3 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, (9-) 9.5-15 (-17.5) x 4-7 (-7.5) mm, with straight or slightly sigmoid germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous to conspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
