Hypoxylon curvirimum Y.-M. Ju, J. D. Rogers, & Lodge apud Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, A Revision of the Genus Hypoxylon, p. 105. 1996.

Stromata glomerate to effused-pulvinate, with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 2-10 mm diam x 0.6 mm thick; surface chestnut (40); blackish granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, without apparent KOH-extractable pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.3-0.4 mm diam.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 125-140 mm total length x 8-9.5 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 82-90 mm long, the stipes 43-52 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 1.5-2 mm high x 2.8-3.2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown, unicellular, ellipsoid, nearly equilateral, with broadly rounded ends, 11-13.5 x 5-6.5 mm, with spiral germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth; finely roughened band ca. 2 mm broad running along the germ slit beneath epispore.
