Stromata hemispherical, with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 2-4 mm diam x 1.5-2.5 mm thick; surface vinaceous buff (86) or grayish sepia (106); dark brown granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments pure yellow (14) or greenish yellow (16); the tissue below the perithecial layer whitish to grayish, becoming blackish, 1-2 mm thick, extending upwards into the space between perithecia.

Perithecia spherical to obovoid, 0.3-0.4 mm diam x 0.3-0.5 mm high.

Ostioles lower than the stromatal surface.

Asci 190-230 mm total length x 12-16 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 90-120 mm long, the stipes 80-120 mm long, with apical ring highly reduced or lacking, not bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent.

Ascospores dark brown to blackish brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 14-20.5 x 7-9.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
