Hypoxylon lenormandii Berk. & M. A. Curtis

TELEOMORPH | CULTURES AND ANAMORPH | SPECIMENS EXAMINED | NOTES

NOTES

Its perithecioid habit has led mycologists to name it several times under Rosellinia. It was long known as H. oodes.

The type of H. fulvoochraceum and the following collections are from dead bamboo culms: THAILAND: Kanchanaburi Prov., 1.1982, Manoch, L.S., (CULTURED) (JDR). PHILIPPINES: Luzon, Manila and vicinity, 9-10.1912, Merrill, E.D. 8383, as Rosellinia calami (S); Luzon, Manila and vicinity, 11.1912, Merrill, E.D. 8481, as Rosellinia calami (S); Luzon, Prov. Laguna, Los Baños, 1.1916, Baker, C.F. 585 & 4131, as Rosellinia calami (S). Despite growing on bamboos, they agree well with H. lenormandii in both the teleomorph and anamorph. We were unable to locate type or authentic material of Rosellinia calami Henn. which was originally described from Australia on Calamus (Hennings, 1903).

It is noteworthy that this taxon occurs regularly on both monocot and dicot substrates. The wide host range and the wide ascospore size range makes us believe that it could be divided into subtaxa.
