NOTES

Hypoxylon musceum is distinctive in having an olivaceous stromatal surface and in having a much less than spore-length germ slit. Stromatal and cultural characters, especially on SMEA where compact hyphal tufts are normally formed, indicate a close relationship between this taxon and H. perforatum, as well as with H. notatum.
