NOTES

Hypoxylon subrutiloides is known only from New Zealand. The McKenzie specimen was listed as H. rubrostromaticum [= H. subrutilum herein] by Miller (1961). It differs from H. subrutilum in having more equilateral ascospores which have perispores that do not dehisce in 10% KOH solution. The stromatal pigments are fairly variable among different collections.
