TELEOMORPH

Hypoxylon undulatum Y.-M. Ju, J. D. Rogers, & Laessøe apud Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, A Revision of the Genus Hypoxylon, p. 199. 1996.

Stromata effused-pulvinate, with perithecial mounds 1/2 to entirely exposed, 0.7-1.4 mm thick; surface fuscous (103); dull rusty brown granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, without apparent KOH-extractable pigments; the tissue below the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.2-0.3 mm diam.

Ostioles higher than the stromatal surface but still overlain with a thin layer of stromatal tissue.

Asci usually containing fewer than eight mature ascospores, 95-115 mm total length x 5.5-6.5 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 50-65 mm long, the stipes 45-70 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, discoid, 1.5 mm high x 1.5-2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 10-12 x 4-4.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length; perispore dehiscent in 10% KOH, with inconspicuous coil-like ornamentation; epispore smooth.
