Stromata effused-pulvinate, with inconspicuous to conspicuous perithecial mounds, 3.5-7 cm long x 2-3 cm broad x 1.5-2 mm thick; surface olivaceous (48); dull brown to black granules immediately beneath surface and between perithecia, with KOH-extractable pigments purple slate (102); tissue below the perithecial layer black, 0.5-0.8 mm thick.
