TELEOMORPH

Kretzschmaria zealandica J. D. Rogers & Y.-M. Ju, Mycotaxon 68: 367. 1998.

Stromata with convex or flattened, turbinate or obconical fertile parts 2-5(-7) mm diam, containing several perithecia, usually fused into crust, tapering downwards into radiating, rounded stipes; surface dull blackish brown, finely cracked; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface; tissue between and beneath perithecia coriaceous to woody, black, disintegrating.

Perithecia spherical, 0.4-0.5 mm diam.

Ostioles finely papillate.

Asci 210-230 mm total length x 6-7 mm broad, the spore-bearing parts 75-90 mm long, the stipes 130-150 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, urn-shaped, 2 mm high x 2 mm broad.

Ascospores brown to dark brown, unicellular, fusoid to ellipsoid, inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends frequently pinched, smooth, 12-15 x 4.5-6 mm, with straight germ slit much less than spore-length.
