Stromata discoid, superficial, 2-5 mm diam x 0.7-1 mm thick; surface blackish brown, plane, smooth; carbonaceous tissue immediately beneath surface; whitish, soft tissue between perithecia; tissue beneath the perithecial layer inconspicuous.

Perithecia spherical, 0.4-0.7 mm diam.

Ostioles higher than the stromatal surface, with openings papillate.

Asci fragmentary, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, inverted hat-shaped, 3.5-5 µm high x 4-5 µm broad.

Ascospores light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoidal-inequilateral, with narrowly rounded ends, 20.5-26 x (8-) 8.5-10.5 µm, with straight, inconspicuous, 2 µm-broad germ slit 1/3 to 1/4 spore-length on the dorsal side.
