NOTES

The stroma of Vivantia resembles a member of section Papillata, subsection Primocinerea of Hypoxylon Bull. of Miller (1961). Some of these fungi are now put into Nemania Gray. However, the ascus tip that is at least as broad as high and the Nodulisporium anamorph strongly indicates an affinity with Biscogniauxia. It superficially resembles Induratia Samuels, E. Müll., & Petrini, but that genus features perithecia that are completely encased in a very hard stroma (Samuels, Müller, and Petrini, 1987). The stroma is probably bipartite in the manner of Biscogniauxia, but the limited mature material did not show this with certainty.
