Stromata hemispherical to spherical, with inconspicuous perithecial mounds, 0.8-5 cm diam x 0.4-3 cm thick; surface blackish brown; blackish granules immediately beneath surface, with KOH-extractable pigments dull green (70); the tissue below the perithecial layer massive, woody, dark brown.
Perithecia obovoid, 0.3-0.7 mm diam x 0.5-1.3 mm high.
Ostioles papillate, encircled with a sunken but convex truncatum-type disc 0.2-0.5 mm diam.
Asci not observed.
Ascospores light brown to brown, unicellular, ellipsoid-inequilateral, shriveled, with narrowly rounded ends, 14-24 x 4-5.5 mm, with straight germ slit spore-length on the flattened side; perispore indehiscent in 10% KOH, smooth; epispore smooth.
