Biscogniauxia plumbea Y.-M. Ju & J. D. Rogers, Mycotaxon 66: 48. 1998.

Stromata applanate, up to 10 cm long x 0.5-3.5 cm broad x 0.4-0.6 mm thick; outer dehiscing layer dark brown, thin; mature surface gray, blackened in age; carbonaceous immediately beneath surface and between perithecia; tissue beneath perithecia inconspicuous.

Perithecia obovoid, 0.1-0.2 mm diam x 0.2-0.3 mm high.

Ostioles slightly higher than stromatal surface, with openings finely papillate.

Asci 100-120 mm total length x 7-8 mm broad, the spore-bearing part 85-100 mm long, the stipes 15-27 mm long, with apical ring bluing in Melzer's iodine reagent, cubical, 3 mm high x 3 mm broad.

Ascospores brown, ellipsoid, inequilateral to nearly equilateral, with one end narrowly to broadly rounded and the other bearing a hyaline cellular appendage ca. 1.5-2 mm long x 1-2 mm broad, smooth, 12-14.5 (not including appendage) x 6-7 mm, with straight, spore-length germ slit on either more convex or less convex side.
