NOTES
This species is noteworthy in having very small ascospores. Hypoxylon lienhwacheense, H. ravidoroseum, H. subgilvum var. microsporum, and H. ticinense have similar ascospore size ranges.
The conidiogenous cells in H. brevisporum are longer and more slender than those usually encountered among Nodulisporium-like conidiogenous structures.
